Measuring viscosity under metrological circumstances
Viscosity plays an important role in the food, paint, pharmaceutical and chemical industry where it is often used for quality and process control. In most cases this is done by comparing samples with certified reference liquids and/or trend analysis. For the most accurate viscosity measurements glass capillaries are used and the so called efflux time is measured. In many national metrology institutes where the highest accuracy is required, these measurements are in many cases still done manually. At present several fully automatic systems like the AVS®370 are commercially available, but do they meet the requirements of these very high-end users ?
